Welcome

Welcome to the Mills ammunition blog

I wanted to have a place where I could share information and ideas about guns, ammunition and everything related to.  I hope you will take a minute to read the post and leave a comment.

Obligatory introductory blog post. I have already shared with you that I am a proud US Coast Guard veteran.  But I wanted to go into a little more detail about what led me to the military. My origins are in Ohio.  My paternal side (Mills and Joy families) were given land in Ohio as compensation for fighting in the American Revolution and my grandmother was a proud member of the Daughters of the American Revolution.  My maternal side of the family also has a strong patriotic history.  My mother's great great grandfather (Levi Wolf) fought in the Civil War.  I even have his discharge certificate. My great uncle (Ross Mills) was a WWI veteran and my father (Dr. Herb Mills) was in Vietnam in the 25th infantry out of Cu Chi. I bet you are thinking with all of that great military service in my ancestry, I had always had ambitions to join the military. Not the case.... I was very active in sports and the social scene.  Aside from a stellar year at boarding school, my grades were not a big priority for me.  In fact, I ended up not graduating but getting my GED.  My dad realized that if he paid for me to go to college, it would not be a good return on investment based on my attitude at that time.   I made the choice to join the Coast Guard to ultimately get my college paid for and to break away from my hometown.  I have always felt very patriotic and that service to your country was important.  This was my calling and opportunity to create a life for myself. I will leave off here....and pick up next time to talk about boot camp and some of my stations. Please leave a comment.  Were you in the military?  Do you have a family history of service?  Share some of your story in the comments.
